Multiple ways to thank Canadian Armed Forces members, Veterans and their families throughout November and December – including free coffee for Veterans and military members on Remembrance Day
TORONTO, ON — Building on last year’s success, ONroute is once again partnering with Support Our Troops for an expanded campaign in 2021. All 23 ONroute locations along Highways 400 and 401 will champion Support Our Troops and its Holiday Food Hamper program throughout November and December.
ONroute employees will be wearing the Support Our Troops Yellow Ribbon, and asking customers to consider donating $1 with each transaction. Poppies will be available in all ONroute plazas and on Remembrance Day, November 11th, free coffee will be available for Veterans and current military members.
“We have tremendous respect and gratitude for the women and men in the Canadian Armed Forces – past and present,” says Melanie Teed-Murch, Chief Executive Officer of ONroute. “We are honoured to partner with Support Our Troops, to support their Holiday Food Hamper program as a way to give back and extend our thanks to those in the communities we serve. We are also extending a token of our thanks with the gesture of a coffee to members in uniform on Remembrance Day for the sacrifices made for our rights and freedoms as Canadians. .”
In 2020, ONroute raised nearly $49,000in November, which helped support 285 military families in Ontario through the Support Our Troops Holiday Food Hamper program. The 2021 ONroute campaign is being expanded to two full months, starting on November 1 and running through December 31.
Support Our Troops is the official charitable cause of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). It meets the unique needs and special challenges faced by members of the CAF community as a result of military service. Some of these challenges include dangers of the job, long absences from home, and relocation across Canada and the world. Support Our Troops provides financial support and assistance to CAF members, Veterans and their respective families in a number of important and often life-changing ways that are not provided by core public funding
The Support Our Troops Holiday Food Hamper program, which provides $100 to single members and couples, and $200 to families with children during the holidays, has grown by about 46% since it launched in 2015.
“We appreciate ONroute’s participation, offering such visible support at so many high-traffic locations,” says Scott Johnson, Associate Vice President for Support Our Troops. “Our courageous and dedicated Canadian soldiers are always there for us. The generosity from Canadians helps women, men and families face these unique challenges with hope, strength, and dignity. We appreciate your unwavering support.”
